Israeli bombing kills Lebanese fighters in Bekaa Valley

An armed group in Lebanon on Friday fired rockets across the southern border into Israel as a result of an Israeli bombardment in the Bekaa region, killing two members of the group.

The Israeli military said in a statement on Friday that “Israeli Air Force jets targeted and killed Musab Ghalab in Midtown, Lebanon.”

The military described him as a member of the Islamist group in Lebanon and launched attacks on Israel.

The group said in a statement that two of its field commanders, Musab Khalaf and one of his relatives, were killed in the blast.

A security source in Lebanon confirmed that Khalaf was an officer in the Islamic group's armed wing, al-Fajr Force. The group had earlier fired rockets at Israel.

It is the first time Israel has confirmed that a member of the Islamist group has been targeted in Lebanon, despite a series of strikes targeting members of Hamas in Lebanon that have killed members of the group.

In October, Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 253 hostages, according to Israeli statistics. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip that killed more than 34,000 Palestinians.

At the same time, Hezbollah and Israel were firing on Lebanon's southern border. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli strike led to the killing of two Hezbollah fighters on Friday.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October have killed more than 250 Hezbollah members and more than 70 civilians. In Israel, missiles fired from Lebanon killed around 12 security forces and 6 civilians.
