HomeAway's Save Our Summer Vacation Contest

Need some rest and relaxation? A break from the daunting news about the current economy? HomeAway.com, a leading vacation apartment rental site, wants to give you $10,000 to do just that!

Through the “Save our Summer Vacation” contest, they will be awarding a $10,000 week-long getaway to the person who submits the best short text, video or photo entry explaining why they deserve a summer vacation. In addition, two runners-up will each receive a $5,000 vacation. The general public will vote for the top 15 entries and they will go on to the finals where the winners will be selected by an expert panel of judges.

So if you are stressed out, tired of doom and gloom news, or just haven’t had a vacation in forever get going on your submission. You only have until July 2nd, 2009 to enter!

The "Save Our Summer Vacation" movement is part of an effort to increase awareness of the importance of vacations despite a troubled economy. Although times are tough and gas prices rising, vacations do not need to be eliminated from family summer plans. HomeAway believes that many costs can be cut allowing families to stick to an affordable travel budget. Vacation rentals, through sites like theirs, allow you to rent an entire home for less than the cost of a hotel providing you with a kitchen for cooking, saving even more.

HomeAway encourages supporters to visit their web-site and sign a petition requesting that Congress proclaim August 7 as “National Vacation Day”.

Disclosure: HomeAway.com is one of the generous sponsors of Travel Blog Exchange '09, co-hosted by Galavanting's editor-in-chief. But we would've written about their contest anyway!
