Galavanting's 5 Fall Foliage Favorites

The autumnal equinox is on Sept. 23 this year, the official start to fall in the Northern Hemisphere. An explosion of reds, oranges and yellows can be expected in the coming weeks as nights get cooler and the air gets crisper. What better way to enjoy autumn than to take in the glorious change of seasons with Galavanting’s five foliage favorites?

1. Into the Mystic:

New England is the veritable poster child for fall. Connecticut’s Mystic Country is no different. Located in the Northeastern-most corner of the state, Mystic Country is dotted with charming B&Bs, quiet farms and numerous hiking and cycling trails, which only contribute to the serenity of the season.

2. Superior Shades of Red:

Autumn in Michigan is nothing short of magical. Whether you’re exploring Northern Michigan or hiking the trails of Sugarloaf Mountain on Lake Superior, there’s no escaping the dazzling palette of colors in this Midwest state. Our pick? Apple-picking at any one of the state’s acclaimed farms.

3. (Not Yet) The Great White North:

Before wet winters hit Ontario, Canada, the region is a dazzling kaleidoscope of color. Experience the relaxing crunch of leaves on the ground as you hike through Ontario’s provincial parks or paddle down any of the province’s many waterways in a canoe or kayak as you breathe in the life-affirmingly crisp air.

4. By Land, By Sea:

Majestic Massachusetts boasts some of the most historic landmarks in the United States. Why not enjoy them in the fall, with a stunning backdrop only Nature herself could provide? Boasting numerous scenic drives with this very intention, Massachusetts is everything fall should be: comforting and effortlessly enjoyable.

5. Stop and Smell the Coffee:

The East Coast does not have a monopoly on fall’s brilliance. Look beyond the always-grand evergreens and you’ll learn that Washington and Oregon still vibrate with the warmth of autumn, from the smoldering reds, golden yellows, glowing oranges and blushing pinks. Don some autumn-appropriate wools, drive out to each region’s wine country and take in the magnificent array of colors while waxing poetic over your new favorite Pinot.
