Photo by James CridlandAirspace around several European countries has been closed today due to clouds of volcanic ash in the atmosphere originating in Iceland, according to CNN. The United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, France and the Netherlands have closed or plan to close air space due to the conditions. Other airports in the region have initiated restrictions and cancelled flights.
An estimated 3,000 flights were expected to be affected so if you are headed to the area check with the airline to see if your travel plans will need to change. The cloud of ash and current flight conditions have resulted from a volcano eruption below Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull glacier on Wednesday.
