Press Releases

TravelBlogExchange.com Offers Travel Bloggers an Online Home

Chicago, IL, January 18, 2009 — Galavanting Productions, the travel media company behind GoGalavanting.com, announced the creation of an all-encompassing travel network, based on the Ning platform, yesterday to a core group of thirty industry bloggers. In less than 24 hours, travel writers, bloggers and photojournalists from all over the world had joined the network, with more joining to share their global experiences every hour.

“There was never really an active place to have travel bloggers congregate,” said Kim Mance, founder of TravelBlogExchange and Galavanting Productions. “TBEX is an interactive community where bloggers can meet each other; learn more about the art of travel writing as a business; cross connect on other platforms; and locate new audiences and vendors for their blog.”

The idea is a by-product of a meetup planned for July 26th, 2009 in Chicago. Debbie Dubrow of DeliciousBaby.com and Mance are co-hosting the event to get travel bloggers together, calling it Travel Blog Exchange ‘09.

“We had planned on starting a community for GoGalavanting.com that would complement the current community,” said Mance. “But in talking it over with our marketing team, realized that the real void was the lack of a community where traveler writers could have a collective voice.”

GoGalavanting.com’s marketing consult, Maren Hogan, had this to say: “Travel bloggers, writers and photographers all have very different aims but they are brought together my their love of travel and a desire to chronicle those journeys. TBEX gives them a very real way to do that and brings community to wherever in the world they may be.”

Galavanting Productions offers travel media solutions for globetrotters the world over. GoGalavanting.com, its flagship online magazine site went live in July of 2008, and is already considered by many to be a “fresh voice for women’s travel writing”. Galavanting also produces a series of destination video blogs and tutorials for travelers, which have recently been optioned by a preeminent on-demand media service. TravelBlogExchange, or TBEX, the community for travel writers, went live in January of 2009. Galavanting Productions is based in Chicago.

GALAVANTING – ONLINE WOMEN’S TRAVEL MAGAZINE LAUNCHES

Chicago, IL, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 – Galavanting, a new online women’s travel magazine, officially launched July 15th to thousands of readers in its first week.

Editors-in-chief Kim Mance and Katy Quissell recruited a diverse and impressive group of women writers to tell their stories of adventures from around the globe for the inaugural online issue.

Mance says, “We take women as seriously as women take their travel adventures. We provide lighthearted, funny essays and tips, but you’ll find no fluff within Galavanting’s content. We’re smashing the stereotypes that surround women travelers—and women are flocking to it. It’s a lot of fun.”

July’s travel feature essays and entries on the worldwide blog give perspectives from women on topics from apartment-swapping to staying safe while traveling alone.

Quissell, who uses her master’s in public health from Columbia University to pen travel tips on protecting one’s health, says, “We want to empower women to discover themselves and far off places, while creating a trusted community atmosphere.”

Galavanting also works to connect female travelers to the communities they visit and profiles women-owned businesses in popular travel destinations. Its launch issue features Valerie’s Chicago Chocolate Tours, Kimberley’s Parisian Events, and Anitra’s Lova Lava Land Eco Resort in Hawaii.

Mance and Quissell will embark on an edgy, adventurous trip next month while shooting the first Galavanting destination web-video in Costa Rica. They will also highlight local women-owned businesses, and sustainable tourism opportunities for women on a budget.

GALAVANTING – ONLINE WOMEN’S TRAVEL MAGAZINE POISED TO LAUNCH

Chicago, IL, June 27th, 2008 – With thousands of visitors in the weeks leading up to its official launch on July 15th, Galavanting, the new online women’s travel magazine, expects a large readership to enjoy its first monthly issue.

Editors-in-chief Kim Mance and Katy Quissell have recruited contributors who range from professional travel writers to professional women from all over the globe telling their stories and giving travel tips. But Quissell, 28, describes Galavanting as more than just a magazine. “We’ve worked hard to facilitate a bustling community and a unique space for women to come and connect with not only useful travel information, but with other women as well. The response so far has been overwhelming and women are really excited about it.”

Mance, 29, says, “Women love to get advice from a trusted circle of girlfriends, so we’ve brought together women from all over the world to dish out the best they’ve got in that department. When it comes to travel, we found that most publications out there dumb things down, or seem to think women are only in search of glamorous day spas or the world’s perfect facial. But we know there’s a lot more to women than just stereotypes, and our articles and online video guides give a sense of the adventure and discovery women can experience during their travels.”

Galavanting specializes in providing candid advice and engaging women’s stories of discovery, self-discovery, and insider tips, as well as practical advice to keep travelers safe and culturally connected.

From visiting communities as a volunteer, to taking tours operated by non-profits benefiting local groups, the magazine strives to truly connect women to the communities they visit. Galavanting even goes so far as to put an emphasis on supporting women-owned businesses and highlighting the status of women and gender parity in destination governments.

Fun and adventurous travel destination videos hosted by Mance and Quissell will air online each month. Shooting for a first episode will start in Costa Rica this August.
