Beauty & Creativity - Fez & Marrakesh, Morocco

One of my favorite places visited is definitely Morocco. The colors, sights and smells are nothing like my home in the States and it’s a place to really change one’s surroundings. We visited Fez, Marrakesh and a brief stopover in Casablanca (which was a good choice, as there’s not much to see in the capital).

It’s a land of unique beauty. Even this old guy was beautiful. He’s a Water Man and walks around the bustling souk selling a cup of refreshment (for those accustomed to local bacteria, tourists should stick with the bottled variety).

In the winding Fez markets, we got to see some talented young women who sit day after day weaving rugs in the sweltering heat. And they create the patterns from memory.

Of course it was the men who reaped the profits from the women’s skill, but most of the workshops we visited provided reasonably comfortable conditions. (Unfortunately I can’t say the same for many young child iron workers. I tried to take a photo of them, but their foreman saw me and stood in front of the camera.)

Another creative career: Snake Charmer… This one is in Marrakesh.

This is posted as part of Delicious Baby’s Photo Fridays. Go over there and check out more neato places.

I think that we saw that same snake charmer during our stay in Marrakech! I, however, was too chicken to put a snake around my neck, unlike all of my other traveling companions. We opted for a guided tour during our stay in Morocco and our guide, Driss, had mentioned the same thing about Casablanca. We were only in Morocco for a few days and our main event was a camel trek through the Sahara, so we didn't get to see Fez, sadly. That's where Driss was originally from too. Anyway, I'd love to go back to visit Fez and even to see Casablanca.. just cause :).

Best,
Suz

Great pictures Kim. Hope you were using a big 'ol zoom lens for that last one...

I was a little too creeped out to put the snake around my neck too, ick! But the camel trek through the Sahara sounds awesome!

And yes, it was a zoom lens Jamie :)

I'd love to go to Morocco! I think the closest we've gotten is finding a great Moroccan restaurant in Paris where we had tagine. Thanks for the virtual tour :)

I fell in love with Morocco, so much that I decided to move here two years ago. I'm glad I did, I'd hate to be in the UK now with all this bad weather and a recession.

In Morocco no matter what the weather the sun always manages to come out, even for a few seconds to say "Marhaba"!

I work in holiday rentals. This is my website:

Wishing you all the best.
